Project Lead Engineer

Does working on challenging problems in a fast-paced, small business / start-up environment with highly competent teammates sound appealing to you? We are looking for a full-time project lead engineer to add to our team. The ideal candidate will be insatiably curious, a fast learner, strongly self-motivated, and have an interest in leading a team. Our business model relies on agility. As such, our teams are small, and each team member learns to perform a variety of functions.  We value diversity and place an emphasis on creating a welcoming and collaborative culture. 

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project and interface with customers and suppliers

  • Responsible for meeting program technical schedule and cost objectives

  • Manage the bill of material and procurement of piece parts

  • Lead an interdisciplinary team to successfully develop new products

  • Plan for all aspects of the program including design, tooling, assembly and test

  • Participate in resource planning and project performance evaluation

  • Participate in operations planning and maintenance

  • Assemble and test both deliverable hardware and test equipment

  • Machine and rework parts

  • Operate as a key element in a team of creative, independent individuals

  • Document work and create reports as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

  • Excellent verbal, written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • United States Citizenship, or the legal ability to work in the U.S.

  • Note: We regularly work with export-controlled data and are unable to provide sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years relevant experience

  • Program management training

Work Location / Hours:

  • Mostly on-site in Amherst, NY (near UB North campus)

  • Intermittent remote work as needed

  • Hours are flexible
